Indigenous Cultural Safety & Humility and Anti-Indigenous Racism Response Training

Advocated for the required completion of two foundational courses for all BCEHS employees, initiating their educational journey towards creating a culturally safe environment for Indigenous Peoples at the entry point of the healthcare system.

Rainbow Flags

2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Representation

Secured executive sponsorship to participate in 14+ Pride Parades throughout British Columbia under the BCEHS banner. Our presence aims to symbolize an inclusive workplace and a reliable resource for every community member seeking Emergency Medical Services, fostering an environment of safety and support.

Employee Probation

Collaborated and completed probationary guidebooks for Unit Chiefs and New Regular Part-Time (RPT) and Full-Time (FT) employees. Contributed to completion of probationary checklist. Assisted Managers in holding RPT probationary review meetings for employees.

Scheduled On-Call

Implemented and supported the largest change in BCEHS history across the province. Worked collaboratively with many Managers, Unit Chiefs, Dispatch Supervisors, and employees to ensure a successful rollout of schedule on-call. Engaged in multiple information sessions with various stakeholders such as health authorities.

Operational Guidelines for Responding to Emergency Calls around Trains

Developed a standard high risk hazards guideline for emergency call takers to use when assessing a call that involves patient care around trains and train right of ways. This policy includes notifying the correct railway police, notifying the crews of any potential dangers, providing them with an automated safety message to help crews assess changing risk factors and considerations for further resources that could be started, such as; a Helicopter and Highway Rescue.

Kamloops Dispatch Emergency Evacuation Plan

Under the direction of my manager I was given the opportunity to create an Emergency Evacuation plan for the Kamloops Dispatch Centre. Since COVID has begun we have split our centre into two different locations within our facility to increase social distancing. In the event of a major threat to our buildings infrastructure we needed to create a contingency plan in order for the Vancouver and Victoria dispatch centres to be able to take over our resources and calls.

Kamloops Dispatch Assistant

Created a operational guideline for a new position in the Kamloops Dispatch Operations Centre. This position is to support the Kamloops dispatchers and their roles while dispatching ambulances and organizing transfers. On average per day the Kamloops dispatch centre handles 40+ interfacility transfers managed by our emergency fleet as well as responding to approximately 500 emergency calls.

COVID 19 - Call Taking Procedure

In partnership with BCEHS's Lead for Process Development, I helped create a more clear and concise procedure for BCEHS Call-takers to follow when assessing a patient for COVID like symptoms. This procedure was initially placed into the call taking work flow of March 2019 when the pandemic first started. This procedure allows us to ensure the safety of our paramedics and other first responder agencies. With more knowledge on this virus we have adapted the procedure more than once in order to keep up with the changing environment.

Prince George Post Orientation

Created a document for orientating new employees to the Prince George ambulance stations. This document contains vital information to allow new paramedics to Prince George to become familiar with many locations we attend to. Such as the hospital, the pulp and paper mills, the RCMP station, the hockey arenas, and many other city facilities.
